Azamgarh. On Saturday morning, two criminals wanted as cattle smugglers and gangsters had an encounter with the police near Goncha bridge of Mubarakpur police station. In the firing from both sides, one miscreant was shot in the leg, due to which he got injured. While escaping, the second criminal was detained by the police. Both are cattle smugglers, two arms and cartridges were recovered from them.
Inspector Rajesh Kumar, in-charge of Mubarakpur police station, said that his companions were on patrol with the police force in the early hours of Saturday. Then information was received that two miscreants resident of Mau district were coming towards Mubarakpur riding on a bike.
Based on the information, the police started waiting for the miscreants to arrive near Gonchapul and then they saw two people coming on a bike. Seeing the police siege, the miscreants started running away. Seeing the police surrounded, the miscreants started firing. In retaliation by the police, one miscreant was shot in his right leg due to which he fell there, while his other accomplice tried to run away and the police chased him and caught him. Both the miscreants have been identified as Salim Nat and Sandeep Gupta, carrying a reward of Rs 25,000 each. Both these scoundrels were wanted among vicious animal smugglers and gangsters. The police have admitted the injured criminal to the Community Health Center Mubarakpur.
SP City Shailendra Lal said that both the arrested criminals are accused of being involved in animal smuggling. Injured criminals Salim Nat and Sandeep Gupta, both are residents of Mohammadpur Babupur village of Kopaganj police station area of Mau district.
