China Pakistan Joint Navy Exercises: The navies of China and Pakistan are going to conduct joint naval exercise together for the first time. There is a lot of discussion in Pakistani media regarding this exercise between the two countries. Meanwhile, Pakistan has also demanded Hangaur class submarine from its friend China. Both the neighboring countries are building it together.
Pakistan is most dependent on China to meet its arms needs. A report by the United States Institute of Peace 2023 claimed that in the 80s, Pakistan used to buy large quantities of weapons from America to deal with Afghan Jihad, but from 2005 to 2015, Pakistan bought the most weapons from China.
China gives 75 percent weapons to Pakistan
In the last 15 years, China has provided arms worth $8469 million to Pakistan. Earlier, in the last 50 years, China had given arms worth $8794 million to Pakistan. Apart from this, Pakistani Army also buys maximum weapons from America and Russia. Since 2015, China fulfills 75 percent of Pakistan’s arms requirements. In 2021, Pakistan had acquired High-to-Medium Air Defense System air missile from China. Only Chinese artillery and rocket launchers are used in Pakistan Army.
What do China-Pakistan want to achieve from the exercise?
According to the People’s Liberation Army, China will land six of its ships in the Arabian Sea during naval exercises with Pakistan. These ships will include guided missile Jibo, guided missile frigate Jingzhou and Lini. Apart from this, two shipborne helicopters and dozens of naval personnel will also be present on these ships during the exercise. At the same time, China has also deployed diesel-electric submarine of Type-093 Song category.
According to Pakistani newspaper Dawn, the purpose of the Sea Guardian 2023 naval exercise is to jointly experience traditional and non-traditional threats in the Indian Ocean region. Apart from this, both the countries want to establish bilateral relations between their navies.
