BJP MLA Purnesh Modi: On Friday (November 17), the party handed over a big responsibility to BJP MLA Purnesh Modi, who filed a defamation case against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. BJP Purnesh Modi has been appointed state in-charge of Dadra Nagar Haveli and Daman.
58 year old Purnesh Modi is a three-time MLA. He comes from OBC community and is a lawyer by profession. He became MLA for the first time in 2013 by winning the by-election from Surat West seat. Then he was elected from the same seat in 2017 and 2022. Last time he won by a margin of one lakh votes.
In 2021, he was made a cabinet minister in the first Bhupendra Patel government and was given portfolios like transport, civil aviation, tourism and pilgrimage development.
Let us tell you that due to a 2019 petition by Purnesh Modi, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was convicted in a criminal defamation case, due to which he had to be disqualified as a Member of Parliament.
Rahul Gandhi had allegedly made controversial remarks regarding the Modi surname in a rally, due to which Purnesh Modi had alleged that the Congress leader had insulted the entire Modi community. On filing a case against Rahul Purnesh Modi had made headlines.
