Maharajganj: Police of Maharajganj district of Uttar Pradesh have arrested two accused for alleged acid attack on a girl. Police arrested both of them after the encounter. On Saturday, Additional Superintendent of Police Atish Kumar Singh said that the police arrested two people after an encounter late on Friday night. The encounter took place around 1 to 1.30 am on the late night of Friday-Saturday, following which two persons were arrested. Police said that the main accused Anil Verma was injured by the bullet, while the second accused Ram Bachan was also injured while fleeing from the scene. He further said that these accused along with their associates had planned to carry out this incident four-five days ago.
The accused-girl already knew each other
The Additional Superintendent of Police further said that the girl injured in the acid attack and the main accused knew each other for some time. The marriage of the victim was fixed three months ago on 11th December, hence the main accused was distressed about this. The scooter used in the acid attack has been recovered, which has acid marks on it. He said that when the girl was returning home from the market with her mother in Dharauli village on Thursday night, the accused approached them on a scooter and threw acid on the girl and ran away. In this attack, the girl’s face and body got burnt to the extent of five-seven percent. The injured victim is undergoing treatment at Gorakhpur BRD Medical College. The girl has suffered five to seven percent burns and her condition is stable. Superintendent of Police Kaustubh had said on Friday that the girl’s family does not want any action, but the police will register a complaint and take strict action against the accused.
