On Thursday night, Thackeray had posted a picture of himself walking on the second carriageway of Delisle Bridge with a saffron flag in his hand. In it he had written, “We do not want VIPs of the Khokhey government (a derogatory reference to the Eknath Shinde government). People are worried.”
NM Joshi Marg police said we have registered a case on the complaint of Purushottam Ingle, 43, an assistant engineer in the BMC, bridge department. All of them are supervising the work of Delisle bridge in Lower Parel. He alleged that lane marking, painting and street lamp work was done. Work still needs to be completed on the Delisle Road bridge, southbound lanes. Despite this, he saw on social media that the bridge has been inaugurated by Aditya Thackeray along with other party workers. By doing this he put people’s lives in danger. They also removed the barricade installed at the entry point.”
The next day BMC officials visited the spot and found the coconuts broken and the barricades open. Senior BMC officials were informed about this. The bridge was closed again and it was later decided to register a case.
The police officer said that BMC officials came to us with the application. Following this, late on Friday night we registered sections 143 (unlawful assembly), 149 (every member of an unlawful assembly guilty of an offense committed in furtherance of a common object), 336 (endangering the life or personal safety of others) and 336 (endangering the life or personal safety of others) of the Indian Penal Code. “A case has been registered under section 447 (criminal encroachment) of IPC.”
Let us tell you that an important link bridge between South Mumbai and Lower Parel was closed 5 years ago. It was partially opened for the first time this June. Finishing touches like streetlights, painting, lane marking, signal system etc. are still underway. Deputy Municipal Commissioner Ulhas Mahale said that the bridge will be open for traffic within the next 3 to 4 days.
