New Delhi. The Delhi High Court has issued notices to some media companies on a plea filed by Vijay Nair, an accused in the Delhi Excise scam case, against leaking investigation information to the media. Justice Gaurang Kant issued the notice.
The counsel appearing for Vijay Nair said that the CBI and ED deliberately leaked information related to the investigation of the case to the media. During the hearing, advocate Nisha Bhambhani, appearing for the Broadcaster and Digital Association (NBDSA), said that she has filed a report in the court. He said that out of the media companies that have been made parties in this case, only three are members of NBDSA.
On 21 November 2022, the High Court had directed all news channels to broadcast news only on the basis of official information received from CBI and ED in the case related to Delhi Excise Policy.
In fact, Vijay Nair has filed a petition in the Delhi High Court alleging that the ED and CBI are leaking sensitive information about the case to the media. During the hearing, senior advocate Dayan Krishnan, appearing for Vijay Nair, said that the ED and the CBI were leaking information about the case. He said that every information related to investigation and inquiry is being leaked. By doing this, ED and CBI are violating the earlier court orders. He had said that the problem of leaking information is that one of the accused in the case, Dinesh Arora, was ready to become a government witness and his statement was made during the hearing in camera (without the presence of any third party), but that statement was also released to the press.
