Varanasi, 26 May (Hindustan Times). The main wrestling matches of the Khelo India University Games will be held at the Student Activity Center of IIT BHU from Saturday. In 30 different weight categories, student wrestlers will show their stamina in Greco-Roman, Freestyle for the whole four days. Under the supervision of the Sports Authority of India in coordination with the Uttar Pradesh Sports Department, under the Khelo India University Games, freestyle wrestling matches are organized in 57, 61, 65, 70, 74, 79, 86, 92, 97 and 125 kg weight categories.
Similarly, Greco-Roman will compete in 55, 60, 63, 67, 72, 77, 82, 87, 97 and 130 kg weight categories. Whereas, in comparison to the women’s category, 50, 53, 55, 57, 59, 62, 65, 68, 72 and 76 kg weight categories are organized. According to the officials of the Sports Authority of India, on Saturday from 9.30 am to 1 pm, there will be qualification and repechage rounds of 57, 70, 79 and 97 kg weight categories in freestyle and 60, 67, 77 and 82 kg weight categories in Greco-Roman. In the same period, the qualification and repechage matches of the women’s 50 and 55 kg weight categories will be held. The formal launch of the competition will be at 3.30 pm. Thereafter, there will be verification of wrestlers in 65, 74 and 92 kg weight categories in freestyle.
Similarly the verification of wrestlers will be done. Freestyle, Greco-Roman and women’s final rounds will be held from 3 pm to 6 pm. The winning wrestlers will be rewarded as soon as the final round is over.
Players sweat on two different mats in practice
Participating wrestlers participating in the competition practiced on two different mats in an air-conditioned hall. A practice mat has been installed on the first floor of the Student Activity Center while on two mats placed on the ground floor, wrestlers from universities across the country will show their mettle for medals. This hall has also been made fully air-conditioned. Perfect lighting arrangements have been made here.
Guru Nanakdev and Maharishi Dayanand University’s largest team of 16-16 players
The largest contingent of 16 players each from Guru Nanak Dev University Amritsar and Maharshi Dayanand University is participating in the wrestling competition of Khelo India University Games organized at IIT BHU. In this four-day competition, Kurukshetra University is the second largest team of 13 players from Haryana and 10 players each from Guru Kashi University and Punjab University. In this competition, nine players from Lovely Professional University and Shivaji University, Chaudhary Charan Singh University Meerut and eight players from Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University have been selected for the Khelo India University Games. Similarly, seven from Savitri Bai Phule Pune University MS, Chaudhary Bansilal University Bhiwani, Chaudhary Devi Lal University, Indira Gandhi University, Om Prakash Joginder Singh University Churu and five each from Punjab University Patiala, Chaudhary Ranveer Singh University, Deshbhagat University, Guru Jambeshwar. University of Science and Technology Hisar and Singhania University 04-04, Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapeeth Varanasi, Bir Tikendrajit University, Chandigarh University, Devi Ahilya University, Dr. Rammanohar Lohia Avadh University, Gurugram University, Jannayak Chandrashekhar University, Punyashlok Ahilya Devi Holkar Sonapur University A team of three each from Rani Channamma University and Sant Baba Bhag Singh University, Punjab will challenge the rivals here.
