Muzaffarnagar. Due to the strike by the employees of the Electricity Department, the situation of electricity and water supply in the district and the city has deteriorated. Due to non-availability of electricity for several hours, the scale of patience of the troubled people has also started overflowing. Late in the evening, agitated people created a ruckus and blocked the Roorkee Road, after which the police had to handle the situation with lathis.
The strike by the employees of the electricity department has disrupted the power supply system in the entire district. The situation is such that in many areas there has been no electricity for several hours, due to which the water supply has also stopped. Apart from this, a large number of people also reached the Gandhi Colony power station, but due to the lockdown, they returned after creating ruckus.
People also created ruckus at Shamli Road power station. There is hue and cry in the city regarding water. People of different localities of the city have yearned for every drop of water. The municipality has made arrangements to supply water through generators at about 12 tube wells. Where the power supply is coming, instructions have been given by the EO to the Jalkal department to run tube wells for 24 hours.
The municipality is engaged in arranging generators on rent at other tube wells. By late night, water supply had been arranged in most of the areas of the city. Apart from this, the municipality has prepared about eight water tankers by filling them.
The municipality has about 66 tube wells to supply drinking water in the urban area. Water is supplied from these tube wells to different localities of the city. The power supply remained affected due to the strike by the officers and employees of the Power Corporation. More than 15 tube wells of the city have not been able to get electricity. Due to which water crisis has arisen in half the city.
District Magistrate Arvind Malappa Bangari has instructed the Municipality EO to repair the drinking water supply. On the other hand, the residents of the locality have become upset without water. There is hue and cry in the localities regarding water. Municipal water supply department has arranged generators at Gandhi Colony, two tube wells of Dwarikapuri, Company Bagh, Prempuri Gandhi Park, Sarvat Peer, Gandhi Vatika, Roorkee Chungi, Malhupura, Friends Colony, Adarsh Colony, Near PWD Guest House etc. . Water is being supplied to all these tube wells from generators. Troubled by the shortage of electricity and water, people created ruckus at many places.
