Events are changing rapidly regarding the election of Congress president. On Wednesday, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot met party president Sonia Gandhi in this regard. However, according to information received from sources, Sonia Gandhi has made it clear during this meeting that she will not favor any particular leader in the party president election.
The special thing is that before meeting Sonia Gandhi, Ashok Gehlot held a late night meeting of party MLAs. And told him that he is going to file nomination for the post of Congress President. Sources said that in this meeting, Gehlot told the MLAs that he would first convince Rahul Gandhi to contest and if he did not agree, he would file his own candidature.
Sources present at the meeting said that Ashok Gehlot told the MLAs that he would go to Delhi on Wednesday and meet party president Sonia Gandhi. Then in the evening, he will fly to Kerala, where Rahul Gandhi is on a padayatra.
Sources said that Gehlot said that he would try to convince Rahul Gandhi to contest there for the last time, if he did not agree, he would himself come to Delhi and file his candidature. Gehlot said that the party high command will do as it says. He said that he is a loyal soldier of the party.
On the other hand, before the election for the post of Congress president, many leaders of the Congress are saying that they are in the race for this post. Senior Congress leader Digvijay Singh while talking to NDTV hinted at his name being included for the post. He said in a conversation with NDTV why are you keeping me away from this race.
The special thing is that before Digvijay Singh, Ashok Gehlot and Shashi Tharoor have also declared themselves contenders for this post. The Congress decided to implement the “one person one post” rule in its meeting held in Udaipur this year. But Ashok Gehlot has made it clear that he is not ready to step down as the CM of Rajasthan, saying that he will hold three responsibilities simultaneously.
